Even though the island of Caye Caulker in Belize is small, you can find a whole range of restaurants and amazing street food vendors here. I loved trying the island specialities in Caye Caulker restaurants, like Fry Jacks and conch fritters. Fresh lobster or other seafood is always a good choice too, if they are in season.
I stayed on the island for over a month on my second visit, and these restaurants really stood out for me:
Best restaurants in Caye Caulker
Namaste Cafe
One of my favourites Caye Caulker restaurants is Namaste Cafe. The breezy cafe offers tasty breakfast and lunch options, plus some pretty good iced coffee. I didn’t try their yoga, but I heard it’s great and it’s not hard to see why: the Namaste Cafe building is beautiful with its thatch awnings and the yoga deck is on the top floor, offering a nice view over the streets.
Amor y Cafe
Another good spot for breakfast is Amor y Cafe. I loved their fresh fruit plate as well as their coffee. It gets busy so it’s a great place to stop by in the morning to observe locals and visitors alike, while enjoying a scrumptious breakfast.
Falafel Bar
Falafels are my favourite, so when I heard about the Falafer Bar, I had to head over straight away. The place is small and the menu is simple, and their food definitely didn’t disappoint me. I popped back a few times to enjoy the amazing, crispy falafels and can wholeheartedly recommend it.
Paradiso restaurant
I stopped by Paradiso, who have recently acquired new lovely owners, for a BLT that was super delicious. You can sit with a view of the ocean while you eat, which makes it a great spot for breakfast or lunch. They weren’t open for dinner yet when I visited, but check them out to see current opening times.
Roy’s Blue Water Grill
My first night in Caye Caulker, I had dinner at Roy’s Blue Water Grill. The lobster fritters were amazing and I also loved their colourful cocktails. I came back a few times and never left disappointed.
Ice and Beans
For the best coffee on the island, head over to Ice and Beans. They have a variety of different flavours of iced and hot coffees to try, and also offer fresh pastries and mini donuts. There also have fresh filled bagels available for lunch. The cafe has a nice spot on the beach, so you can enjoy the view while having your food and coffee.
Fantasy
Fantasy became a reliable staple for me during my time on the island. You can stay in or grab the food to go, and they have an extensive menu to choose from. I always received nice portions of fresh food, and their cocktails aren’t too shabby either.
Bambooze Beach Bar
Bambooze Beach Bar lives up to its name as it is right on the beach. It’s the perfect place to stop by for a lunch, sitting on the swings while watching the ocean. Portions are plentiful with a good variety of options, and Bambooze is also a great bar to hang out later in the evening.
Southside Pizza
For the best pizza on the island, head over to Southside Pizza. The pizzas have fresh toppings and are so tasty, you’ll probably end up coming back before soon!
Happy Lobster
What’s better than fresh lobster? I headed to Happy Lobster to get my lobster fill and was definitely not disappointed. The restaurant is laid back and the seafood fresh and delicious, so it’s definitely worth a try while on the island.
Best Street Food in Caye Caulker
Pupusas and Burritos
On the main street, by the Basketball Court, you can grab a giant burrito, quesadillas or pupusas for around $10bz. You can’t miss the stall that is usually surrounded by people. Just give them your order (usually they offer a chicken and a beef filling) and grab a plate once its ready. The portions are quite big, so you can easily feed two people with one portion, just ask them to split it!
Errolyn’s Fry Jacks
I also visited Errolyn’s Fry Jacks several times while on Caye Caulker. They serve the island specialty, Fry Jacks. Deep fried pockets of dough are filled with your choice of eggs, bacon, ham, cheese, beans… the combinations are endless. They’re perfect for breakfast or a quick takeaway lunch. One was perfect, two had me stuffed!
The Ice Cream Bar
For a dessert or a sweet treat, head over to the Ice Cream Bar, right by the beach next to Seaside Cabanas. They offer a nice variety of ice cream as well as freshly baked cakes and are the perfect spot to stop by after a meal or if you’re looking for something to cool you down on a hot day.
The Creamery
Another good spot for ice cream is the Creamery, who also serve frozen yoghurt. I especially loved some of the sorbets they have.
The Bakery
If you fancy some sweet treats like donuts, or maybe fresh bread, head over to the bakery. They have a good range of freshly baked goodies on offer and the prices are more than reasonable. I stopped by to pick up pastries for breakfast every now and then and was never disappointed.
