Best places to eat in Montserrat

0

I wanted to write a separate post to highlight some of the best places to eat in Montserrat, after all, they were a huge part of my trip. Montserrat, being such a laid back island, is perfect for enjoying long dinners and cocktails. Most eateries are casual, with fresh ingredients and an abundance of rum punch on offer.

For an overview of Montserrat, you can read this post.

Little Bay

Being the main port of Montserrat, where sailing boats and some cruise ships stop by, Little Bay has a few nice restaurants right on the beach.

Pont’s Beach View

Pont’s beach view was my absolute favourite. Situated at the end of Little Bay, the restaurant has a large deck with a beautiful view of the bay. The owner, John, even set out a table for us out on the deck one evening to enjoy the sunset. He has decorated the place with random items that all seem to have a story behind them, with even a hummingbird feeder- I saw one for the first time right here!

With delicious fresh seafood, rum punch and home made ice cream, the food is great. In quieter times, it’s best to call ahead to check if it’s open, but it’s likely John will be able to accommodate you.

Soca Cabana

Also in Little Bay is the colourful, small Soca Cabana, where I stopped for drinks. It is the perfect place to drop by for a picturesque Caribbean view and vibe.

Hilltop Coffee House

The Hilltop Coffee House is a must-do when in Montserrat. The island used to be the home of Sir George Martin’s Air Studios, before the devastation of Hurricane Hugo in 1989 (and the volcano eruption of 1995). Before this, the likes of the Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Dire Straits and Stevie Wonder all recorded here, and David had all the stories to share on the remarkable music history of the island. The place is packed with really interesting memorabilia to discover when you stop by for a coffee.

The People’s Place

Bright and laid back, the People’s Place is situated on top of a hill with magnificent views and the most delicious roti on the island. I even tried the de facto national dish of Montserrat, goat water, here:

The Attic

During lunch time, the casual Attic was bustling as some groups touring the island tend to stop here. It’s no wonder with the delicious, local food the place offers.

Isle’s Bay Beach Bar

The colourful beach bar, which also serves food, tempted me with their cocktails. It is the perfect place to relax and soak up the beautiful view of the empty beach.

Olveston House

Olveston House used to be the residence of Sir George Martin, and these days is both a guest house and a restaurant. It is perhaps the most ‘formal’ of Montserrat restaurants and therefore perfect for a special dinner amidst the lush green grounds, where you can sit on the terrace. The walls of the house feature original photos of the Beatles by Linda McCartney.
