Best places to eat in Amsterdam neighbourhoods

5

With a vibrant restaurant scene, one of my favourite things to do in Amsterdam is trying out new places to eat. Whether it’s perfectly crisp fries eaten from a cone on the street or an inventive six course meal that you’re after, you can find it in Amsterdam.

Whilst the city centre is obviously jam packed with places to eat, venturing outside it is definitely worth it to explore the various eateries Amsterdam neighbourhoods have to offer. Most places are short bike ride away and with cycle lanes everywhere, getting around is a breeze! Renting a bike for the day is a fun way to experience everything the city has to offer.

Here are my top neighbourhood restaurant pics for best places to eat in Amsterdam from a recent trip:

Brunch in Oud-Zuid: Dignita Vondelpark

Dignita is all all-day casual brunch spot and a definite new favourite of mine! ‘Eat well, do good’ is their motto, as they are part of the ‘Not For Sale’ social enterprise model, working to provide certified training programs and support a vulnerable target group of individuals, assisting them in reintegrating into the workplace and society.

The food at Dignita is mostly free-range and locally sourced, with fresh and healthy options available. While the menu is ever changing, I wholeheartedly recommend you try the pancakes that are close to perfection!

It gets particularly busy on the weekends so expect to have to wait for a while after adding your name on the list at the door; we went for a walk in the nearby Vondelpark while we waited. Dignita also have a second location in the centre of Amsterdam.

Lunch in De Baarsjes: Radijs

We ended up in Radijs by chance, and I’m glad we did! A little gem in the neighbourhood, the place is airy and welcoming, with a selection of fresh salads and sandwiches available for lunch. The place is made special by their attentive staff that made sure our wine glasses were never empty! Radijs is reasonably priced and even offers outdoor seating for those sunny days.

Dinner in Oud-West: Moer

Serving up fresh, organic food, Moer’s menu is far from basic, with an atmosphere perfect for a relaxed dinner. You can pick an extensive tasting menu or opt for an individual dish, but whatever you order, it will not only taste great but look beautiful too. Expect some unusual dishes, such as celeriac and white chocolate mousse for dessert.

Special mention in Oost: Alex + Pinard

With a simple decor and warm vibe, Alex + Pinard is a wine bar/cafe that also serves delicious food. The changing menu offers great variety and is perfect for sharing with friends, with a range of wines and beers from small producers available to pair with your meal. Thanks to the lovely and knowledgeable staff, we spent hours here eating through the menu!
